Difference Singapore Food Festival 2012 and Singapore Food Festival 2011.

Singapore Food Festival 2012 is certainly different from Singapore Food Festival 2011. This year, the theme was based on seafood while last year, the theme was based on curry and spices. Even though the theme has changed, it still did not neglect the fact that the foods are still local delicacies with the authentic taste.

Also, the timing of the festival has changed. Even though it lasted for 10 days for both years, previous year had a shorter operating time compared to this year’s. This year, the operation timing was from 11AM to 11PM daily, while last year it was 4PM to 11PM on weekdays and 12PM to 11PM on weekdays. This difference has definitely affected the sales since the operation hours for last year was lesser compared to this year.

Moreover, there is a change in mode of payments too. Last year, cash was not accepted and only Kopitiam cards were allowed to be used for payments. Unfortunately, there were not any discounts given if they were to use the card. This year, cash payments were allowed and NETS Flashpay cards are given 20% discount off if it was used to make payment.

Lastly, there was a change in venue. Last year, the main event was held around Singapore River. However, this year it was shifted to Waterfront Promenade at Marina Bay. It was reported that the organizers believe that the change of venue has increased the number of people participating in this festival (Asia one, 2012).

In my opinion, I think this year’s Singapore Food Festival was definitely a more successful one compared to last year’s. The operation hours were longer which thus led to more people being able to come for the festival as it suits their schedules. Therefore, it led to the increase of sales in 2012.
